Information, Conditions and Rules

 

 

Auditions

 

      Performers will be auditioning for their chance to record a song on a CD to then be produced, launched & sold to help raise funds for Cancer Research.  Auditions will take place on Saturday 11th July, & Sunday 12th July at The Factory Rehearsal Centre (the loud room), Cranbourne. Allocated audition times are to be booked online through Trybooking. https://www.trybooking.com/BICNV Additional times may be added dependent upon demand. Only those auditioning for star search are permitted in the audition room. Support crew may wait outside the room.

 

Youtube/Video entries: This year we will be accepting video entries. This can be emailed to us at starsearch4ac@gmail.com from the 9th March to the 11th July. Payment for entry fees ($20) must be transferred via direct deposit before we will consider your audition. Proof of payment to be sent to Star Search committee via email.

 

Video entry criteria: Please sing 2 contrasting songs & state your name, age & song titles. No audio equipment is to be used during the recording ie: no microphones. No digital editing (audio or video). Your whole body must be visible during the whole audition.  No backing vocals. No acapella. Backing tracks/Music to be clearly heard.

 

Entry:                    Entry is $20 per audition. Payment to be made at time of booking. Booking fee is non-refundable.  

 

Participants:       Only vocal acts will be accepted to perform in Star Search.  Bands, instrumentalists and dance acts will not be accepted. Performers may audition as a Solo, Duo and/or Trio act. Performers may appear in more than one act (ie: soloist may also enter as part of a duo or trio). Originals welcome also. We are looking for a variety of ages to be on our CD, From 10yrs & up. All ages, styles & genres will be considered, and you will be judged against those of your own age.

 

Song choice:             Vocalists are required to perform 2 contrasting songs for their audition. One of the songs you audition with will be the song we expect you to record.

You may be asked to perform with other vocalists in order to be considered for the CD. Ie. 2 soloists may be asked to form a duet for the CD. This will be discussed with you in detail and you will have the opportunity to decline or accept at your own discretion.

 

Backings:             Vocalists may be accompanied by a backing track or instrumentalist for their auditions (or self accompanied). Backing tracks are to be on Ipod or USB (must be mp3 format). CD's will NOT be accepted. IPHONES/SMART PHONES will be accepted but must be placed in Aeroplane mode.

Backing tracks must be acquired legally and NOT streamed from YouTube. 

Please note: Instrumental backing tracks are to have NO backing vocals please.

Instrumentalists will need to bring your own instrument and your own leads.

 

Notification:       Successful applicants will be notified of their success within 1- 2 weeks of the auditions via email. Please ensure you supply a current email address that is checked regularly.

 

Please note:  Previous winners of Star Search are more than welcome to audition in 2020.

 

Original artists/songwriters: Vocalists are welcome to audition with original songs. Any original songs recorded will remain as the intellectual property of the artist and no royalties shall be received from sales. Songwriters/composers will surrender the mechanical rights of the recording of their song. All artists are prohibited from on-selling and distributing the Star Search recordings.

 

Judging:               All acts will be judged on their Vocal ability, presentation, performance and music style. All ages, styles & genres will be considered, and you will judged against those of your own age. Performers will be expected to wear appropriate clothing/costumes for audition & the Launch & are always expected to conduct themselves in a professional and respectful manner throughout the process. The judges’ decision and producers’ rulings will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.  Song choice must be age appropriate and must not contain explicit lyrics.

 

 

Recording

 

Performers who are successful will have the opportunity to record their song on the Star Search for a cause CD. Vocalists will receive allocated recording studio time at The Factory at a date to be specified during the months of August & September 2020.  

Performers may have the opportunity to work with professionals and possibly even record with them. Details TBC

 

Launch

 

All performers who record on the CD will perform at the Launch event which will be held on Saturday 26th September at Casey City Church. This will be our major fundraiser event where family & friends are all invited to come along to see the vocalists perform their songs with live musicians. We will be holding raffles, silent auctions & other fundraising opportunities on the night.

Launch Ticket entry (online) - $20 adults, $10 concession U6 – gold coin donation

Tickets purchased at the door - $25 adult, $15 concession.

Sound Equipment:   During the launch a full sound system with a total of 3 hand held mics and a professional operator will be available. DI’s can be provided for guitarists and instrumentalists, however these requirements must be advised upon application. Accompanists must supply their own instruments. Performers will be expected to attend at least one rehearsal prior to the event & a sound check on the day. These details will be confirmed closer to the date.

 

 

Prizes:          This year, performers are competing for their chance to record on the CD, potentially work with professional recording artists & perform at the Launch.

All proceeds from 2020 ‘Star Search for a cause’ will go towards the Olivia Newton John Cancer Research Institute & Love Your Sister, supporting people affected by cancer.

 

 

Star Search for a cause is a not-for-profit organization run by volunteers for the sole purpose of supporting the performing arts community & raising funds for Cancer research through various fundraisers.
